4 Amazing Hiking Trails Near Temecula, CA

Heading off on a hiking trip near Temecula, CA will give you the best of California's sunshine and beautiful mountain scenery, and there are lots of great parks, preserves, and recreational areas, all of which features miles of trails through the wilderness, to discover. So grab your boots and head outdoors for a day in the summer sun on one of these fabulous hiking trails.

4 Amazing Hiking Trails Near Temecula, CA

1. Santa Rosa Plateau Regional Preserve

Home to an incredibly varied and unique ecosystem, Santa Rosa Plateau offers some great opportunities for wildlife watching and is only about 20 miles outside Temecula. Look out for turtles, badgers, and mule deer as you stroll through the park, as all make their home here, along with many other species of flora and fauna. If you fancy heading a bit further, can continue your hike a little longer into the adjoining Cleveland National Forest to the fantastic 5-tired Tenaja Falls.

2. Lake Skinner Recreation Area

Located just to the east of the city, Lake Skinner is the perfect place for birdwatching, especially along the 1.5-mile lakefront path. Keep your eyes out for herons and other water birds when you're near the lake, and for owls, hawks, and songbirds if you decide to venture further into the woods. If you, or someone in your family, enjoys fishing, you could also combine a hike along the lakeshore with an angling trip, as the lake is regularly stocked with catfish several times a year.

3. Santa Margarita County Preserve – River Trail

This small county preserve may not physically measure up to some of the larger preserves on this list, but it makes up for it in spades with its quiet, tranquil charm. The preserve is a great spot for wildlife watching too, with deer frequently spotted coming to the river to drink, and hawks and other raptors soaring overhead. The peaceful five-mile river trail is a good place to start, as it follows the river down through trees and boulders for a lovely out-and-back stroll.

4. Agua Tibia Wilderness – Dripping Springs Trail

All the trails on this list so far have been fairly easy strolls, but if you're looking for a proper hike, then try the Dripping Springs Trail, located right in the heart of the Agua Tibia Wilderness. The trail is great exercise and could pose a serious challenge, with an elevation gain of over close to 3000 feet along its length. However, the uphill slog will be all worth it once you reach the top and are richly rewarded with scenic views of the ridgeline and surrounding valley.

Once you get up to Dripping Springs, there's the option to primitive camp at the nearby campground before heading down in the morning. Be careful, as there's little to no shade along the trail, and it's easy to get sunburnt.

These are just some of the fantastic trails in the area to discover, but if you need a new car to take you to the trailhead, then visit Paradise Chevrolet Cadillac today, and we'll be happy to help you out.
