Located roughly halfway between Los Angeles and San Diego, the city of Temecula, CA is not far from some of the most exciting destinations that California has to offer. Whether you are looking for a pristine beach to spend the day sunbathing or a bustling city full of museums, culture, and exciting nightlife, these spots are always a good idea. Pack your things and take your friends or family on one of these memorable day trips around the region.
1. Los Angeles, CA
If you ask any Temecula local about their first idea of an urban day trip, chances are they will mention Los Angeles. As one of the biggest and most important cities in the United States, it has become famous worldwide for its beautiful skyline, its neighborhoods, and its place in the American cinema industry. Getting to downtown Los Angeles from Temecula takes a little over an hour and twenty minutes by car, driving northwest along routes I-10 and I-15.
Apart from its touristic spots and famous sights, Los Angeles is also known for its traffic jams. Therefore, a good idea is to find a parking spot close to a metro station and explore the city on foot or by public transportation. Some of the places you should not miss while in this massive urban area include the Griffith Observatory, Hollywood, the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, Long Beach, the Walt Disney Concert Hall, and the Chinatown neighborhood.
2. San Diego, CA
Another popular urban destination among Temecula locals, San Diego is known for its beautiful beaches, its almost perfect weather all year round, and its vibrant cultural scene. Located just north of the Mexican border, San Diego is a true melting pot of cultures in which you can find real Mexican food and get a glimpse of life in the southern neighbor country. The city is also full of tourist spots for families, such as the San Diego Zoo and SeaWorld San Diego.
Getting to downtown San Diego from Temecula takes a little over an hour by car, driving south along route I-15. Although not as big as Los Angeles, San Diego is also not a city that can be explored entirely on foot, so it is a good idea to plan your itinerary ahead and figure out whether you will be using your car to drive around or use the public transportation system of the city.
3. Cleveland National Forest, CA
Located just 30 miles southeast of downtown Temecula, the Cleveland National Forest is a prime spot for nature lovers and visitors wanting to get away from the stress of the city. Spanning an area of more than 720 square miles, it was established in 1908 by President Theodore Roosevelt. Some of the most popular activities in the area include camping, hiking, picnicking, and wildlife photography.
